LETHABO MOLOBI
Pro-Athlete turned Medical Professional
Lethabo’s passion for Sports Medicine led to his academic achievement of a B (Hons) Biokinetics at the University of Johannesburg in 2014. Prior to that he studied Physiotherapy at the University of Witwatersrand and most recently completed his MSc Sport and Exercise Medicine at the University of South Wales, Cardiff. He is now pursuing a MD degree to add to his medical qualification pantheon.
On his quest to becoming a professional basketball player (and suffering an ACL injury in the process), his interest in sports medicine, sport and high-performance training sparked a specific interest in orthopaedic conditions related to sports injuries. Lethabo is focused on not only rehabilitation but also on preventative measures of injuries and appreciates the importance of rehabilitation and its role when it comes to return to sport after injury. He has achieved his success through a combination of clinical, scientific, creative and individualized training and rehabilitation programmes.
Lethabo has always had great pride in helping others to peak at the right time and perform at the highest level. This pride has led Lethabo to working the Senior (men and women) and u/23 National Wheelchair basketball teams since 2016. In addition, he headed, managed and consults for a state-of-the-art high-performance center in Chennai, India (CSS) where the most elite talent comes for rehabilitation. He previously was the head of a spinal rehabilitation clinic, as well as worked on various projects with various sporting teams (Cape Town Tigers Basketball (BAL), Joburg Ballet, Nike Football Academy, Hyderabad FC, Maldives Cricket, Kearsney Rugby, Durban University of Technology Volleyball, South African Basketball Association, DRC Wheelchair Basketball to name a few). After seeing a need and a gap in the South African sporting and rehabilitation market, Lethabo started his own practice, The Medics, in 2020 where the focus has been physical rehabilitation, high performance sporting training and injury management. But it was not until 2022 where a brick-and-mortar establishment was born. The Medics has become a multidisciplinary medical practice that not only focuses on rehabilitation and injury management but also family and general medicine, dietetics and psychology.
